Bad News
Talk about bad news. Bad news is not always what we think: the loss of a job, a home or a family member, or even having a heart broken, or dreams dashed. It is not something taken away from us, nor a dreaded thing put upon us. These things might be considered bad news, but the real bad news is merely the thought of hearing Matthew 7:23.
I never knew you. I created you, but I never knew you. I made you but was never intimate with you because you neglected to seek Me and never found Me. Get away from me, apart from me. You despised Me and I am now rejected you.
We so easily get accustomed to breaking God’s laws and bypassing His boundaries. We take God’s voice for granted and practice silencing it while allowing other voices to be louder than the voice of the One who gave us ears to hear. We spend our lives quoting the words of those who twist, pervert and blasphemy God’s words in books, lyrics, and social media posts. We revere words that were no words at all because they were not there from the beginning, not with God and not God.
It is a terrible thing to hear the words stated in Matthew 7. They pierce through the heart of these who still have one. Most of us imagine we will hear them on Judgment Day, but I submit for your consideration that every time we depart from the Way, our conscience and the voice of the Holy Spirit remind us we are created the distance and are forging that great chasm. By the time we hear those words, "Depart from Me," we would have already accepted the verdict for being practitioners of lawlessness, habitual sinners, repeat offenders, and consenting parties with darkness.
Nothing will be an excuse for us: not the works we have done in His name but really to exalt ourselves, not His gifts we used to bribe and forge an alliance with the enemy, and not the anointing we used to divert the glory from Him to us. When we stand before Him, we would have already understood we received all the rewards for our deeds: fame, fortune, or the glory we lusted after. We would have been well compensated for rejecting an exceedingly great reward by exchanging the Truth for a lie.
There are levels of bad news. In this life, many things may break our hearts, but in the next what will break a heart that is stone-cold is the hammer of the Word. The fire burning in the eternal pit will melt the heart of iron which refused to be penetrated by the King of glory. It truly is a shame and something we can surely avoid. Receive good news and forever escape from bad news. “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” (Hebrews 3:15).
Let it be so!
