Enamored with Lies

Enamored With Lies

There is a traitor within us all, an inner heart that conspires with heresy, leans toward lies and celebrates deception. It is this part of us that cannot recall the truth even if we heard it a thousand times and reject conviction when we come face to face with our errors.   is so enamored with falsehoods that it causes us to meditate on words of darkness, pondering its ways rather than seizing and holding fast to the truth.

There is a yearning within us to be enslaved, to be bound by the chains of our own will and love of self.  It causes light itself seems strange and unappealing while darkness appears beautiful and worthy of exaltation. This deep, destructive longing is our sinful nature. It is not the beast crouching at our door waiting to pounce and dominate, but the monster within, we nurture and groom.  When this brute encounters anything tarnished or ungodly, it releases a surge of energy that warps our perception, so that we cannot even conceive of what is good, let alone practice it.

This sin nature desires to reign and have dominion at all costs, even at the expense of our souls. We are so prone to feed it, refusing to eliminate it before it brings us to ruin. It may seem we are on the losing end of the battle with such a terrible beast willing to employ any means to cause us to obey.  But God also instilled the seed of truth and wisdom within us and offered for us to allow His word and Spirit to guide and empower us against such a tremendous enemy.   With God’s imparted wisdom, we can discern its subtle growth and with His strength we can be trained to stand against its grip.

This insidious force can spend years building a stronghold in our minds, only to watch it crumble before this power of the Holy Spirit. It may circle around us, pulling back the curtain of our dreams to cause us to reminisce about the time we abandoned ourselves to its will.  It may flash before us the success and indulgence the heathens seem to enjoy, trying to convince us a life without boundaries is one well lived.  But the reverie ceases for us the day we learn the truth and understand we have been cajoled only to continue in the delusion of freedom we were fed by darkness.

It is this nature that makes us indulge in the delusion of freedom we never truly had, celebrating madness, corruption, and selfish ambition as success. Yes, there is something in us that makes lies appealing. But there is also something within us that fights against darkness, rebels against its oppression, and hates evil and desires its destruction. To know the truth is to enter this sacred war. To be a woman of God is to clearly understand the enmity long declared between woman and the serpent.  To know the truth is to build an unbreachable wall, to surround it with a consuming fire that burns away the part of us that makes slavery seem a normal state of being.  To embrace freedom is to stand as that city on a hill unafraid to shine its light and unashamed to expose the enemy who seeks to use the cover of darkness and secrecy to besiege and invade.

Thank God for the truth that sets His children free from the pit of doom and destruction. Praise Him even the more for establishing our foundation on solid rock. All our lives, we may have joyfully lived in a sandcastle, but hallelujah we can always build one made to last forever.

Let it be so!
